Quartz countertop suppliers: comparing slabs, seams, edges and fabrication quality
The business that sells a slab, the workshop that cuts it and the crew that installs it are frequently three different companies, and the finished top is decided mostly by the middle one. Slab format sets how many seams a run needs, seam position decides where the top is most likely to fail, and the radius cut into the corners of a sink opening decides whether it cracks there at all. Comparing quartz countertop suppliers usefully means comparing slab batch, seam plan, edge detail and fabrication method rather than the brand name on a showroom chip.

Supplier, distributor and fabricator are three different roles
A countertop passes through several hands before it reaches a kitchen. A manufacturer presses and cures the slab, a distributor holds stock in a local yard, a fabricator cuts and polishes it on a bridge saw or CNC machine, and an installation crew carries it up and sets it on the carcasses. The showroom that quotes may be any one of those, or none of them, and a reseller who never sees the slab cannot answer for how it will be cut.
Three questions establish the chain quickly. Which yard holds the slab that will be used, and can it be viewed and tagged before cutting? Which workshop will fabricate it, and is the cutting done wet with a CNC or by hand on site? Who returns to site if the top chips, stains or cracks, and is that obligation written into the same contract that covers the rest of the renovation?
Singapore has no register of stone fabricators, and none of the official records fill the gap. HDB's Directory of Renovation Contractors, published as an open dataset on data.gov.sg, records only UEN, directory reference number, company name, address, postal code, email address and contact number across the 2,708 companies in the copy last updated on 24 March 2026, so it cannot identify who fabricates stone. CaseTrust accreditation, described on the CASE website, governs contract terms, deposits and warranty rather than fabrication tolerances.
Slab format decides how many seams the kitchen gets
Slab dimensions are a manufacturing fact that quietly designs the kitchen. Cosentino's quality standards document for Silestone gives the Standard Format as up to 3,060 x 1,400 mm and the Jumbo Format as up to 3,250 x 1,590 mm, and sets out the thickness options:
Silestone is manufactured in three different thicknesses: 12 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm; designed for worktops, flooring and interior cladding. In addition, it will have a tolerance of ± 1 mm with respect to its nominal thickness in all thicknesses.

Measure the longest uninterrupted run before discussing colours. A galley kitchen counter longer than the usable slab length, once squaring and edge trim are deducted, will have a seam regardless of who fabricates it, and the only real choices are where the seam sits and whether a jumbo slab removes it. A supplier who will not state the slab format being quoted is quoting a countertop whose seam count is still unknown.
Where a seam belongs, and where it must not go
Seam position is a structural decision disguised as an aesthetic one. A seam centred over a dishwasher or oven opening has no cabinet gable beneath it, sits above an appliance that vibrates and releases heat, and is the position that most reliably produces a hairline split a year later.
Two other positions are equally poor. A seam running through the narrow bridge of material in front of or behind a sink or hob cut-out leaves almost no cross-section to carry load, and a seam landing within a few centimetres of a cut-out corner combines two stress concentrations in one place. A seam over a cabinet gable, at an inside corner where the run changes direction, or at a natural break such as the end of a bank of drawers is supported on both sides and is what a competent fabricator will propose.
Judge the executed seam by touch and by level. A good joint is felt with a fingernail rather than seen, the adhesive is pigmented to the slab rather than left grey, and the two surfaces are flush; a visible height step across a seam is a levelling failure in the carcasses underneath, not a stone defect.
Batch and tone: the check that has to happen before any cutting
Engineered quartz is largely natural mineral, so slabs of the same colour are not identical. Cosentino states that Silestone is made up of 90% natural raw materials and may therefore have slight variations in tone, and its quality standards put the resulting requirement directly:
For works where more than one slab is used, it must ALWAYS be identified that the tone is the same in all of them, before any lay-out or cutting.

The same document notes that the tone is indicated by a three-digit number on the slab's identification label, alongside colour name, pressing batch, polishing batch, measurements and the production date and time, and recommends choosing slabs produced consecutively and making a second visual check of the pieces once they have been cut. Caesarstone's technical data manual makes the parallel point about provenance, stating that the underside of every one of its slabs "is uniquely stamped with identification information establishing authenticity".
Ask for a photograph of the tagged slab with its label legible. A kitchen that needs an island and a perimeter run from two slabs is exactly the case the tone rule exists for, and a mismatch discovered after fabrication cannot be corrected.
Cut-out radius and edge detail: the small numbers that decide durability
Internal corners are where countertops break, and the fix is geometry rather than material. Caesarstone's technical data manual specifies that all edge details should have a minimum one-eighth-inch radius on any profile, for both top and bottom edges, and that a quarter-inch minimum radius is suggested for high-traffic areas and sink cut-outs. A square internal corner at a sink opening concentrates stress at a single point in a resin-bound material, and a slow crack from that corner is the most common failure a fabricator is called back for.
Edge profiles change both the look and the fabrication effort. A pencil or eased edge is a single machining pass; a mitred build-up that makes a 20 mm slab read as a thick slab is two cuts, a glued 45-degree joint and a polished return, and its quality shows in the glue line, the colour match of the adhesive and whether the arris has chipped. Overhangs and unsupported spans need brackets or a substrate rather than faith in the slab.

Engineered quartz and sintered stone behave differently on the saw
Engineered quartz is mineral held in a polymer resin, which makes it workable, repairable at the edges and vulnerable to heat. Sintered stone is fired mineral with no resin binder, which makes it far more heat-tolerant and considerably harder on tooling; it chips more readily at unsupported edges, needs slower feed rates and different blades, and a fabricator who treats it like quartz will produce a top with a nibbled arris. A supplier who quotes both at the same fabrication charge has probably not fabricated much of the second one.
Inspecting a slab, and keeping the dust and the noise legal
View the actual slab rather than a sample chip, ideally in the yard and under raking light. Look along the surface for pinholes, resin blotching, dull patches in the polish and colour banding, check the edges for transport chips, and read the label against the order. Cosentino publishes a planarity requirement for Silestone slabs in both formats of less than 3 mm transversally and less than 5 mm longitudinally, which is the kind of tolerance worth asking a supplier to confirm rather than assume.
Fabrication belongs in a workshop, not a corridor. Cutting engineered stone dry generates fine crystalline silica dust, and silicosis appears as item 34 in the Second Schedule of occupational diseases to the Workplace Safety and Health Act 2006, so cutting should be wet and extracted wherever possible. Any unavoidable trimming on site falls under HDB's noisy-works window in its renovation guide, which permits noisy renovation only from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with general works from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and nothing on Sundays or public holidays.
What to write into the order
Specify the slab, not the brand: manufacturer, colour name, finish, thickness, and the batch or tone reference of the slabs reserved. Attach a layout drawing with seam positions marked and initialled, state the edge profile and the cut-out radius, and record who supplies and who fits the sink and the hob, since a cut-out sized from the wrong specification sheet destroys a slab.
Warranty and variation terms complete the order. CaseTrust-accredited renovation businesses provide a workmanship warranty of 12 months from the completion date of the works and must agree variations in writing before any works, a standard worth applying to a countertop order specifically, because a top installed early and damaged by later trades is the classic argument nobody wrote down in advance. CASE received 787 complaints against renovation contractors in 2025, down from 962 complaints in 2024, according to its media release of 9 February 2026, and disputes of this kind are the reason written specifications outperform verbal assurances.
