Humidity is the deciding variable

Adhesive-backed finishes in a Singapore flat live with year-round humidity and, in some units, with condensation behind furniture on an external wall. That is where wallpaper lifts first, and it is worth asking what the substrate preparation is before agreeing to it.

Repairability, not durability

The right question about a wall finish is not whether it can be damaged but whether it can be patched. A painted wall can be touched up; a textured coating usually has to be redone across the whole plane for the repair to disappear.

Feature walls and where the money goes

A feature wall's cost sits in the substrate and the fixing rather than in the visible material: a level, dry, properly-battened base is what stops a panelled wall from telegraphing every joint within a year.
