Lighting Design in a Singapore Flat
Layers, colour temperature and the decisions that are fixed once the ceiling closes.
Lighting is layers, not a ceiling light
A room lit by one central fitting has one mood and one set of shadows. Layered lighting means an ambient layer, a task layer over the work surfaces, and an accent layer on the things worth looking at, each switched separately. TO FILL: lighting points and fittings by flat type
Colour temperature is a decision, not a default
Warm white reads domestic; neutral white reads clean and is easier to work under. Mixing temperatures within one open living and dining space is the most common lighting mistake in a Singapore flat, because the two halves stop reading as one room.
What gets fixed when the ceiling closes
Downlight positions, cove details and any concealed driver become inaccessible once the false ceiling is boarded. Drivers in particular fail before the LEDs do, so their access position belongs on the ceiling drawing.
Switching and where the switch actually goes
Switch positions are set against how you walk through the flat, not against the wall elevation. Two-way switching at both ends of a corridor and at the bedroom door is cheap during first fix and expensive afterwards.
