Hacking and Demolition in an HDB Flat
What may be removed, what may not, the permit, and the hours the work is allowed to happen.
A permit comes before the hammer
A permit from HDB is required before hacking or altering any walls in a flat (MyNiceHome). The permit application is part of the programme, not an afterthought, because the approval sits on the critical path ahead of every trade that follows. TO FILL: hacking scope by area
Structural walls are not negotiable
Reinforced concrete structural walls, columns and slabs cannot be removed. The distinction between a structural wall and a non-structural partition is read off the approved plan, not judged by knocking on it.
Noise is legally bounded
Noisy renovation works — heavy hacking, extensive demolition, tile cutting and excessive drilling — are permitted only from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, while general works run 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday with none on Sundays and public holidays (MyNiceHome). That window, not the crew size, sets how long demolition takes.
Debris removal is a real line item
Hacking produces weight, and the cost of removing it depends on volume, the lift and the disposal route the town council permits. It belongs in the quotation as its own line rather than folded invisibly into a package.
