How We Work: ID, Contractor-ID or Design-and-Build

What “ID” actually means here

In Singapore “ID” is everyday shorthand for interior designer, and it is used loosely for three quite different business models. A pure design studio draws and specifies but does not build. A contractor builds to someone else's drawings. A contractor-ID, sometimes called design-and-build, does both under one contract. The word on the shopfront does not tell you which one you are hiring; the contract does.

Which model Noble is, and what follows from it

Noble Interior Design Pte. Ltd. designs and builds under one contract and runs the site works rather than passing them on. Under that model there is a single party accountable for both the drawing and what gets built from it, which removes the most common argument in a split arrangement — whether a defect is a design error or a workmanship error.

Registration is a floor, not a recommendation

Under the Housing and Development (Renovation Control) Rules, an HDB flat owner must engage a contractor listed in HDB's Directory of Renovation Contractors, and contravention is an offence carrying a fine not exceeding S$5,000. Noble Interior Design Pte. Ltd. is listed in that directory under DRC Ref HB-12-5230A, UEN 201722629H. HDB states that it does not endorse nor guarantee the quality of works of listed contractors — registration is the entry requirement, not a review.

The reno sequence we run

Scope and measure on site, then drawings, then permit application where hacking is involved, then long-lead orders such as carpentry and stone, then site works in trade sequence, then the water test and the defect walk before handover.

What you get in writing

Every quotation line states supply, install, or supply-and-install. That distinction is the single most common source of renovation disputes, and leaving it implicit is how a cheaper-looking quotation becomes the more expensive job.
